Clouds, Camera Action!

Hello!

Watch this space over the next few weeks as new photos from the Banquet and a photo shoot with the lovely Owen Reid shall be added… The weather was not the best for the outdoor shots (good old British Cloud) but some good stills were acheived, which I aim to get up here over the next few weeks.

In the meantime here is a teaser from the show for now….

O Lusty May (Well… April!)

Hello!

What amazing weather! Learning thirteen songs in 6 different languages is much easier when laying in a beautiful park on a 24degree summer day! Thank you weather!

Well, so much to report! My opening week went very well and all the material was thankfully learned in time. Having a fantastic time with a great cast.

As well as my role as Singer/Dancer,  I am also understudying the female lead, who skipped off on her holiday leaving me to fill her remarkably large frocks (see the image below). The Medieval Banquet has been running for 40 years and I would recommend the show to anyone, as its a delightful affair and the Banquet food is top notch. The show starst at 8.15pm and covers music and costumes from the 12th Century through to early Tudor times and features the wonderful Nigel Murfitt in the style of Henry VIII.

Spring Medley/Finale Costume

I am hoping for a photoshoot in the next week or so, so watch the gallery for new images, in the mean time here is a dressing room image of yours truly in the lead singer finale costume.

Love as always,

Metamorphoses Critical Response

Hello!

Just a quick one; the critics’ verdict on Metamorphoses is finally in! (Well, it was in a few weeks ago, but I’ve been so busy learning songs I haven’t had time to update!!)

Dr Genevieve Liveley, University of Bristol professor, author of “Ovid: Love Songs” says:

“Fantastic… the writing and the performances were exceptionally fine and beautifully Ovidian in the blending of pathos/bathos, horror/comedy, originality/allusion.”

And our review in Cherwell, the Oxford University Magazine, can be found by clicking HERE.

In the Cherwell review Rebecca Tatlow had the following to say about the production:

“In Metamorphoses the focus throughout was on characterisation and connecting with the audience through the power of the drama alone…a sympathetic and selective re-imagining of the work”

That’s all for now!

Wassailing I Go!

Hello!

No time to stop and chat as I have thirteen songs (most of them not even in English!) to learn by Wednesday!

From Wednesday 6th April I shall be performing as a comely wench at the Medieval Banquet near Tower Bridge in London. Further details can be found on their website by clicking HERE.

I will put up more information once I’ve found time to pause for breath, but the part was offered yesterday, rehearsals commenced today (Monday) and my first show is on Wednesday, so (if I am to be ready on time) I must return to my songs!

An Ovidian Success!

Hello!

Well the curtain has come down on Metamorphoses…. for now!

After a great run and some excellent audience feedback, the nightdresses and sheets have been packed away.  But not for long! From the 23rd to the 26th March, the venue was almost if not completely sold out every night and so, in response to audience demand, Hecate Theatre are aiming to present the show in more venues over the Summer.

So watch this space!

In the meantime I’ll leave you with the thoughts of audience member Jerry Cowhig:

“…the jumps from comedy to horror were especially well done, and seeing the gruesome episodes through the antics of the school girls made them very shivery…”

A glimpse into the world of Ovid…

Hello!

Rehearsals are now well under way and the cast publicity photos from the shoot last month are soon to be available on the company website and on here. In the mean time below is a little teaser taken from a rehearsal on the day of the shoot….

Mets Rehearsals

Yours truly drew the short straw on dresses for character reasons and is modelling a nightdress 3 sizes too big! It’s the new look for Spring… Trend setter that I am.

More to follow soon!
